Sun stands on the beach, wondering where her husband is. Frank tells everyone to stay calm and wait for help to arrive. Ben heads towards the main island, and Sun follows him, with Frank following behind. But Sun knocks Ben out and goes with Frank on the outrigger instead. Cesar goes with Ilana to the buildings on Hydra Island to try and figure out where they are. Ilana tells Cesar about a man at the beach who wasn't on the plane. Turns out it's John Locke, looking alive and well. Sun and Frank head to the Dharma barracks, where they run into Christian, who shows them an old photo of the Dharma Iniative, where Sun sees Jack, Kate, Jin, Sawyer, Juliet and Hurley. Cesar takes Locke to the infirmary, where he is able to sit down and have a heart to heart with Ben, who is very surprised to see Locke. Ben and Locke try and take one of the outriggers over to the other island, but Cesar and a group of the passengers try to stop them. But Ben steals Cesar's gun and kills him. Ben and Locke meet up with Sun and Frank at the Dharma barracks, and Sun tells Ben about everyone in the Dharma Iniative. Ben has to be judged by the Smoke Monster, so he heads to the Temple with Locke and Sun, who is waiting for Locke to show her how to find Jin. Frank heads back to the other island to get back to the passengers. When Frank gets back, Ilana and her crew have found guns, and taken charge of the camp. Ben heads down below the outer wall of the Temple, and encounters the Smoke Monster. The Smoke Monster does not kill him, and instead takes the form of his daughter Alex. As the episode ends, Alex tells him to follow Locke, and to do what he says, or else he will be killed. The episode runs 47:31 and is 387MB to download. I think you should put the scene with Christian before "Locke" is revealed. Since both are the same person, he can't be in two places at once. It makes more sense to me to first meet Sun and Frank and then go back as Locke.
ReplyDelete@SARA - Interesting point. At this point I didn't do too much altering with the order of the episodes, and left it mostly in the order it was broadcast. I will say this seems to be somewhat of a continuity error by the writers, since it seemingly takes quite a while to get from one shore to the other via boat, so even having events play out as you suggested stretches logic a bit, having him on the main island, then back on Hydra Island the same night. Still, good suggestion.
ReplyDeletei think this discrepancy is supposed to indicate that Christian is NOT a vision of MIB, but something else... perhaps a walking spirit not unlike Michael's. perhaps it is meant to also indicate the lies made later by MIB, that he was acting as Christian when Jack chased him...
ReplyDelete@shauniqua Definitely possible. Who or what Christian is throughout the show is quite ambiguous, perhaps on purpose.
ReplyDeleteThe show makes it very clear that Christian on the Island is indeed MiB. Notice how you never see Christian on the Island again once MiB's "locked in" in Season 6. And Claire's whole relationship with on-island Christian and Locke-MiB being one and the same later on. The writers let the MiB basically give away to the audience, when he (as we learn via Sun later) told Sun and Frank to wait for John Locke, that "K bye I gotta go be John Locke now!".
ReplyDeleteYou actually didn't leave it in the order it was broadcast, because it was broadcast out of order, and you partially corrected it (but not completely). Jeremy Bentham takes place after Namaste -- at the beginning of Jeremy Bentham, all of the events with Sun and Lapidus on Hydra Island have already unfolded for sure. Once you put all the John Locke scenes after the Christian scenes, there's no discrepancy or continuity error, because you really don't know how long it takes to get from one island to the other. And even if traveling that quickly were not plausible, it isn't bettered by placing them in a more illogical order.
While I agree that it makes the most sense this way, I have two issues with this train of thought:
Delete-It implies that Sun and Frank just stayed at the barracks for two days waiting for Locke after meeting with Christian (They met with Christian on day 1, they didn't meet up with Locke until day 3)
-Locke was introduced to the Ajira survivors on the night of Day 1. And that's just the first time we saw him. Ilana mentioned him to Caesar, implying he's been around the camp for longer than that. It was night time on Day 1 when Sun and Frank see Christian. We know that they left Hydra Island during the day, so it takes some time to get from Hydra to the barracks. We also know that MiB can't travel over water. So he would have had to take an outrigger back and forth, same as anyone else. So how is he at the barracks at night on Day 1, but then also back at Hydra Island at night on Day 1?
You say we don't know how long it takes to get from one island to the other, but we do know. We saw the time passage from Sun and Frank taking the exact same path MiB has to take to get to and from the barracks.
I agree that Christian = MiB = Locke. They're all one in the same. But I also think the writers messed up with the continuity and didn't give MiB enough time to get to where he needs to be. But it's a fair enough point that the Christian stuff should probably go before the Locke stuff.
