Episode 027: September 23, 2004 (Day 2)

So, things are a bit settled down now that we've got the crash out of the way.  We've got our second day on the island, and the tail section is trying to come to terms with the people that came in the middle of the night to take some of them.  Jack, Kate, and Charlie head off to find the cockpit, where they find the pilot still alive, at least until the Smoke Monster shows up and kills him.  They bring a radio back with them, Sayid works on getting it functional, and Kate shows us her underwear.  Sayid takes a group with him to get to higher ground to try and get a signal on the radio, and we get the infamous scene with Locke where he teaches Walt about backgammon, the light, and the dark.  Oh, and Sawyer kills a polar bear.

  1. One of the writers said the weather on the island is determined by the mood of the island's protector. It rains whenever he's upset, which is why it rains whenever something bad is gonna happen. Notice it started raining when the smoke monster started going after the pilot and then stopped right when he died. Jacob was probably upset because he knew what was going to happen.

  2. Interesting, I don't think I had heard that. I'll definitely keep an eye out for that in future episodes.

  3. As far as deleted scenes go, there's one called "Special Delivery" from the Season 2 DVD set. It shows the tailies pulling in a big wooden crate from the ocean and opening it to find boomerangs. Maybe it fits in during this episode. I can't find it on YouTube so maybe I'll post it soon.

  4. Also, there's more deleted scenes called "Kate and Sayid" and "The Climb" that fit into this episode.
