Episode 026: September 22, 2004 (Part 2)

Part 2.  The flight.  The crash.  The aftermath.  I will admit it gets a little chaotic at the time of the crash, with so much going on at the same time, but I tried to make it as easy to follow as I could.  The story is pretty simple.  We start off with Desmond grabbing the fail safe key off of Inman's body and running back to the hatch.  Then we have our plane sequences focusing on Jack, Kate and Charlie.  We also see Desmond run back to the hatch to enter the numbers, and Juliet's book club taking place at the time of the system failure that caused the plane to crash.  We see the Others run outside to see the plane going down.  Ben sends Ethan and Goodwin off to spy, then takes Juliet to go see Mikhail.  The tail section crashes, and Ana Lucia and Eko help to get people out of the water.  Then, we get to our opening shot of the series.  Jack wakes up in the jungle, and stumbles upon the plane wreckage.  We see him helping out people, we see Locke wake up, and able to stand, we even see Nikkie running around trying to find Paolo.  Ana Lucia helps Bernard get out of a tree, Charlie and Claire meet, we get to hear the Smoke Monster off in the jungle, and the Others go to the Tail Section's camp and attempt a raid on the survivors.
The episode runs 41:48 and is 350MB to download.  You can stream below (via Facebook), or go here to use torrents (better quality, recommended) to download the episodes to your computer.

  2. Just wanted to post and say thanks for putting this together, it is something I thought of doing myself quite a few seasons ago but never had the time or more importantly the ability to handle a project of this magnitude.

Either way I have started seeding the two torrents on my seedbox and will keep them there for as long as I can.

To preserve the life of the torrent have you thought about adding some of the less reputable trackers, like thepiratebay.org?

  3. Great job overall. However, I still think you should cut back and forth (in general) instead of doing the split screen. Some of the split screens were unnecessary. And some of the scenes were just unwatchable and it ruined a lot of great moments. Also, I think you should have started this episode with Juliet's eye opening from the last episode. And in the last episode, it would have been better to start the scenes of everyone getting in their seats after Hugo's scene.

  4. @Harroguk - Thanks for seeding. I'll look into adding TPB as a tracker.

@David - We'll just have to agree to disagree. The split screens are my favorite part of the whole project, and I find them very intriguing. I didn't find anything in this episode to be unwatchable. Maybe we didn't hear every single line, but as with all the split screens, I've gone out of my way with the audio mixing to make sure that any significant dialogue is able to be heard.

  5. Yeah, I was thinking that the audio mixing would be very difficult. I dunno if you've seen this site before: http://lostinorder.com/page/2

I think you did a better job with a lot of it than this guy, but watch the beginning scenes from day 1 and you'll see what I mean.

  6. The split screen stuff was brilliant, it's like seeing all the dots connect. Did you see the Flight 185 in real time on youtube? That's similar to this but I think you did a better job with it, especially the audio.

  7. @Ferg - Thanks, and I have. I liked a lot of what was done with the Flight video, and I think our end results were pretty similar; but there were things I wanted to differently, which was mostly a result of their desire to make the flight '24-style'. In 24, you have several scenes split screen, then you cut to just one scene for a while. With all of these different things going on at the same time during the flight, I wanted to keep things split-screened for as long as they needed to be.

  8. @Mike Maloney - Also I don't know if you've ever watched Buffy or Angel but you've inspired me to put all the Angel flashbacks in chronological order.

  9. Pro splitscreen here. Certainly the splits wouldn't work in 1st run episodes. However, I think anybody watching these even casually is probably well-versed in what is happening in those scenes, and the juxtaposition of familiar scenes simultaneously gives you two scoops of frisson in every bowl.

It's going to get pretty damn straightforward for a while now.

  10. Splits are the best, not just in this, not just in 24, but just overall. (ok, in some cases they might not, but that's a different story)

  11. I'm also in the pro-split-screen boat. That's just the way it's supposed to be done. In real-time. To have scenes going back and forth just messes up the flow of the "chronological-ness" that this project is all about.

  12. In case you're interested, some deleted scenes from this episode are: "Smoking" and "Chicken or Lasagna." Both can be found on the bonus disc of "The Complete First Season" DVD set. I couldn't find them on YouTube so I'll post them later.

  13. Deleted scenes are not official canon, stfu.

    1. Thanks, Episodes 25 and 26 were by far my favorite part of the project, really loved how the crash turned out.
