Episode 072: December 20-21, 2004 (Days 90 to 91)

Ben comes back to the camp, without Locke.  He starts the raid on the beach camp a day early, and Alex has Karl head to the beach camp to warn them.  Jack takes everyone out to the jungle, and shows them his plans for the Others when they arrive.  He wants to attack the Others, and blow them up with dynamite.  Sayid wants to get Naomi's phone working, but in order to do that they have to shut off the jamming signal coming from the Looking Glass Dharma station as well as Rousseau's message at the radio tower.  Desmond tells Charlie that he saw a vision saw Claire and Aaron leave in a helicopter, and Charlie ends up drowning and dying.  While Sayid is going over the diagrams for the Looking Glass, Charlie volunteers to go down and turn off the jamming switch.  While everyone is preparing for the Others, Karl arrives in the outrigger and tells everyone that the Others are coming tonight, not tomorrow.  They decide to leave a few people at the camp to dispatch the Others, and everyone else will leave camp and head to the radio tower with Rousseau to turn off her signal, while Charlie goes to the Looking Glass.  Charlie heads out into the water with Desmond, and he swims down to the Looking Glass.  But when he gets there he finds two of the Others pointing guns at him.  Jack takes everyone to the radio tower, leaving Sayid, Jin, and Bernard behind to set off the dynamite.  Charlie is tied up, and the Others get in touch with Ben to tell him that he's down there.  Ben sends Mikhail to go to the Looking Glass to take care of Charlie.  Ben realizes that Juliet has betrayed him, but he can't warn his crew going to the beach camp because they've already turned their radios off.  They go to all the marked tents, and Sayid and Bernard set off the dynamite they're supposed to, but Jin can't hit his with his gun, and the three of them are captured.  Ben figures that the other Losties are heading to the radio tower, and leaves camp with Alex to meet up with Jack.  At the Looking Glass, Desmond heads down there when Mikhail shows up and starts shooting at him in the outrigger.  He hides in a locker, and Mikhail shows up and is none too pleased to hear that his own transmissions have been jammed by the women in the Looking Glass.  Ben pleads with him that he was doing it for his own good, and asks him to kill Charlie and the two women, to clean up his mess.  Sawyer and Juliet leave to go back to the beach camp to help Sayid, Jin and Bernard because they only saw two explosions go off.  Hurley tries to go with to help, but they tell him he'll just get in the way.  As the episode ends we go back to the mass grave, where Locke is attempting to kill himself and get it over with quickly.  But before he can, he sees a vision of Walt, that tells him to get up, that he has work to do.  The episode runs 65:25 and is 544MB to download.  You can stream the episode below (via Facebook), or go here to use torrents (better quality, recommended) to download the episodes to your computer.

  1. Hey, I just watched "The New Man in Charge" and I REALLY, REALLY think you should add it to the final episode bedore we get into the flashsideways episodes. I think it really is an extremly important piece to the show. Just my 2cents.

  3. I will give it another shot. I watched the epilogue, and it's not quite as obtrusive as I expected. My main concern was that it would be very jarring to go from "emotional end of the show where Jack dies" to cut to "epilogue that is not emotional at all and overall relatively meaningless". But, I have an idea on how to avoid it from playing out that way. So yeah, I'll see if I can fit it in there.
